Almaty Trip from India 2026: Visa-Free Package from ₹71,999

Snow-covered peaks, bright blue mountain lakes, cable cars gliding over pine forests. It looks like Switzerland, but you don’t need a Schengen visa, a long flight or a Europe-sized budget.

This is Almaty, Kazakhstan, just a few hours’ flight from Delhi, and Indians don’t need a visa for short trips. If you’re planning an Almaty trip from India, here’s everything you need to know: visa rules, flights, the best time to go, what to see, and the one problem most travellers don’t hear about until they land.

Do Indians Need a Visa for Kazakhstan?

No, not for a short holiday. Indian passport holders can visit Kazakhstan visa-free for up to 14 days per visit, with a maximum of 42 days in any 180-day period. The 14 days can’t be extended on arrival, so plan your dates carefully.

At immigration, keep these ready:

  • Passport valid for at least 6 months, with two blank pages
  • Return or onward ticket within 14 days
  • Hotel booking or proof of accommodation
  • Proof of funds, such as a card or bank statement

Travel insurance isn’t always mandatory, but we strongly recommend it, especially for mountain activities.

Flights from India to Almaty

Delhi has the most options, with non-stop flights to Almaty taking around 3.5 to 4 hours. Air Astana flies the route several times a day, and IndiGo has also flown it. Air Astana also connects Mumbai with Almaty a few times a week. Schedules change often, so always check the latest flights for your dates.

Booked 6 to 8 weeks ahead, a return ticket from Delhi often costs around ₹36,000 to ₹38,500, and fares rise closer to the date and in peak months.

Travelling from Chandigarh, Punjab or the Tricity?

Delhi is your gateway. A drive or short domestic flight to Delhi, then one non-stop flight, and you’re in the mountains of Central Asia. It’s one of the quickest international getaways from North India.

Best Time to Visit Almaty

  • Late May to June and early September: the best all-round time, with pleasant city weather and open mountain roads.
  • June to September: the main season for lakes, canyons and hiking.
  • January to March: snow season at Shymbulak. January averages around −6°C in the city, and it’s colder in the mountains, so pack proper winter clothes.

Top Things to Do in Almaty

Almaty city and Kok-Tobe

Walk through Panfilov Park to the colourful wooden Zenkov Cathedral, and browse the Green Bazaar for dried fruit and local snacks. In the evening, head up Kok-Tobe hill for sunset views over the city and the mountains.

Medeu and Shymbulak

Drive up to Medeu, a huge outdoor ice rink in the mountains, then ride the cable car to Shymbulak. Even if you don’t ski, the snowy peaks from the top are breathtaking in every season.

Kolsay Lake, Kaindy Lake and Charyn Canyon

This is Almaty’s most magical day out. Kolsay is a calm blue lake ringed by forest. Kaindy is even more unusual: a lake where the trunks of a drowned forest still rise out of the water. And Charyn Canyon’s red rock walls are often compared to the Grand Canyon. It’s a long, full day, but one you’ll talk about for years.

The Problem Nobody Tells You About: Language

Here’s something most travel blogs skip. In Almaty, many people don’t speak much English. Russian and Kazakh are the main languages, so ordering food, explaining directions to a taxi driver or asking for help can be surprisingly hard.

That’s why our Almaty trips come with English-speaking drivers. They take you between sights, help with small conversations along the way and keep the day running smoothly, so language is never a worry.

Food Tips for Indian Travellers

Kazakh food is very meat-heavy, so vegetarians should plan ahead. Carrying a few snacks from home helps, especially on the long day to the lakes and canyon. Tell us your food preferences, and we’ll help you plan around them.
