Both have soft sand, warm sea and beautiful sunsets. Both are hugely popular with Indian travellers. So how do you choose between Phu Quoc and Da Nang?
The honest answer: they’re very different holidays. Phu Quoc is a laid-back island built for slowing down. Da Nang is a lively beach city with mountains, culture and Hoi An just down the road. Here’s our Phu Quoc vs Da Nang comparison, including one visa detail many travellers get wrong.

Weather: Your Travel Month Might Decide for You
This is the most important difference, because the two have almost opposite seasons:
- Phu Quoc: dry from November to April, with January to March the sunniest. May to October is the rainy season.
- Da Nang: dry and sunny from roughly February to August. Heavy rain usually arrives from around September to November.
So for Diwali, Christmas or New Year, Phu Quoc is usually the better beach choice. For Indian summer holidays, Da Nang shines. Our best time to visit Vietnam guide explains each month.
The Visa Detail Most People Get Wrong
Da Nang: Indians need a Vietnam e-visa. It costs USD 25 for single entry and is easy to get online.
Phu Quoc: the island offers 30-day visa-free entry to foreigners, including Indians, but only if you fly in directly from abroad and stay on the island. If you connect through Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City, or want to visit the mainland during your trip, you need a regular Vietnam visa.
In April 2026, the Indian Embassy in Hanoi advised Indian travellers to verify entry conditions carefully before relying on the Phu Quoc exemption. Our advice is simple: if there’s any chance your route touches mainland Vietnam, get the e-visa. It’s a small cost for complete peace of mind. Our Vietnam visa guide shows you how.
Things to Do
Phu Quoc: island fun and relaxation
Spend your days on beaches such as Sao Beach and Long Beach, snorkelling and kayaking in clear water. For families, VinWonders Phu Quoc is a huge theme park, and Vinpearl Safari is home to thousands of animals. Evenings mean seafood at the night market or wandering through Grand World. Nature lovers can explore Phu Quoc National Park.
Da Nang: beaches plus culture and adventure
Start at My Khe Beach, then ride the cable car up Ba Na Hills to walk across the famous Golden Bridge. Explore the caves of the Marble Mountains, drive along the Son Tra Peninsula, and watch the Dragon Bridge light up at night. Hoi An’s lantern-lit Ancient Town is about an hour away. Our Da Nang and Hoi An itinerary puts it all together in 5 days.
Food for Indian Travellers
Da Nang is the easier choice for Indian food. The city has a good range of Indian and vegetarian restaurants, especially near the beach. In Phu Quoc, Indian food is more limited, though larger resorts can usually help. Strict Jain meals are harder in both, so tell your travel planner in advance.
Getting There from India
VietJet has launched direct routes to both Da Nang and Phu Quoc from Indian cities such as Delhi and Mumbai, but schedules can be seasonal, and many Phu Quoc travellers connect via Bangkok, Singapore or Kuala Lumpur. Remember the visa rule above when choosing your connection. Our guide to direct flights from India to Vietnam has the latest routes.
So, Which Should You Choose?
- Choose Phu Quoc for a relaxed island break, resort days, theme parks and a winter beach holiday.
- Choose Da Nang for variety, culture, easier Indian food and a summer beach holiday.
- Honeymooners: Phu Quoc for resort romance, Da Nang plus Hoi An for lanterns and adventure.
- Families: both work well. Phu Quoc has theme parks and a safari, while Da Nang has Ba Na Hills and more food choices.
