“Vietnam or Bali?”
If you’re stuck on this question, you’re in good company. It’s one of the most common things travellers ask us. Both have direct flights from India, both are easy on the visa front, and both look stunning on Instagram. So how do you pick?
We plan trips to both every week, so here’s our honest Vietnam vs Bali comparison for Indian travellers. We’ll look at cost, visa, weather, food and who each destination suits best, so you can choose with confidence.

Which Is Cheaper: Vietnam or Bali?
For most Indian travellers, Vietnam works out cheaper. A couple can usually do 5 to 7 days in Vietnam for about ₹80,000 to ₹1.8 lakh in total. The same length of trip to Bali usually costs a couple about ₹1.2 lakh to ₹2.5 lakh.
The biggest difference comes from where you stay. Bali’s private pool villas are wonderful, but they push the budget up quickly. Vietnam’s hotels and food give you more for your money. For full breakdowns, read our Vietnam trip cost guide and our Bali trip cost guide.
Visa and Entry: Both Are Easy
For Vietnam, you apply online for an e-visa before you fly. It costs USD 25 for single entry and is valid for up to 90 days. Our Vietnam visa guide shows you how.
For Bali, you get a visa on arrival or an e-VOA for IDR 500,000, valid for 30 days. On top of that, there’s the IDR 150,000 Bali Tourist Levy and a free online arrival card. Our Bali visa guide explains all three steps.
Neither is difficult. Vietnam just needs a little more planning ahead, while Bali has a few more small steps.
Weather: Your Travel Month May Decide for You
This is the part most people overlook, and it’s often the deciding factor. The two destinations have almost opposite best seasons:
- October to March: Vietnam is the stronger choice, especially Hanoi, Ha Long Bay and the south. Bali is in its wet season from November to March.
- April to September: Bali shines. This is its dry season, with sunny, less humid days.
- Summer holidays (May–June): Bali is great, and so is central Vietnam. Da Nang and Hoi An are dry at this time, while the north and south get more rain.
So if you’re planning around Diwali or Christmas, Vietnam usually makes more sense. Our best time to visit Vietnam guide goes region by region.
Vietnam or Bali for a Honeymoon?
Bali is the classic choice: private pool villas, cliff-top sunsets in Uluwatu and slow, romantic days in Ubud. If your dream is relaxing in a villa together, Bali wins.
Vietnam suits couples who want variety. You can cruise Ha Long Bay, walk the lantern-lit streets of Hoi An and end with beach days, often for less money.
Which Is Better for Families?
Vietnam offers more variety for kids and parents alike: cruises, cable cars, theme parks and plenty of city sightseeing. Bali is calmer and works well for families who want a slower beach-and-pool holiday. Either way, keeping the itinerary light makes a big difference. Our 7-day Vietnam itinerary and Bali itinerary show you what’s realistic.
Food for Indian Travellers
Good news for vegetarians: both work. In Vietnam’s main tourist cities, a full Indian meal costs about ₹400 to ₹700 per person. In Bali, you’ll also find Indian restaurants in the popular tourist areas. Jain travellers should plan ahead in both, and it’s worth telling your travel planner early.
So, Which Should You Choose?
- Choose Vietnam if you want better value, more variety, or you’re travelling between October and March.
- Choose Bali if you want villa stays and slow beach days, or you’re travelling between April and September.
