Vietnam Visa for Indians 2026: Your Step-by-Step e-Visa Guide

Flights booked? Hotels sorted? Then there’s just one thing left that really can’t go wrong: your visa.

The good news is that getting a Vietnam visa for Indians is simple. Everything happens online, you never visit an embassy, and it costs less than a nice dinner out. In this guide, we’ll walk you through the Vietnam e-visa process step by step, plus the small mistakes that cause the most rejections.

Do Indians Need a Visa for Vietnam?

Yes. Indian passport holders need a visa to visit Vietnam. For almost every holiday, the best option is the e-visa. You apply online, pay online and receive it by email.

Vietnam e-Visa Fees and Validity

e-Visa typeFeeValidity
Single entryUSD 25Up to 90 days
Multiple entryUSD 50Up to 90 days

The fee is paid directly to the Vietnamese government and is not refunded if your application is rejected. So it’s worth getting every detail right the first time.

Documents You Need

Keep these ready before you start, and the form takes about 20 minutes:

  • Passport valid for at least 6 months after your arrival date, with at least two blank pages
  • Scan of your passport data page, the full page, including the two lines of code at the bottom
  • Portrait photo, 4×6 cm, with a white background, looking straight at the camera, and no glasses
  • Travel details: your arrival date, arrival airport and hotel address in Vietnam
  • A debit or credit card for the payment

How to Apply for a Vietnam e-Visa: Step by Step

  • Step 1: Open the official website. Go to evisa.gov.vn and choose the e-visa application. This is the only official site. Lookalike websites charge much more for the same visa.
  • Step 2: Upload your photos. Add your portrait photo and the scan of your passport data page. Take a fresh portrait photo instead of cropping the one in your passport.
  • Step 3: Fill in your details. Type your name and passport details exactly as printed in your passport. Add your travel dates, your arrival airport and your hotel address.
  • Step 4: Pay the fee. Pay online by card, and don’t refresh the page while the payment is processing.
  • Step 5: Save your registration code. You’ll get a code after submitting. Keep it safe, because you need it to check your status.
  • Step 6: Check, download and print. Check your result on the e-visa search page using your registration code, email and date of birth. Once approved, download the e-visa and carry a printed copy with your passport.

How Long Does It Take?

Officially, processing takes around 3 working days, though 3 to 5 working days is common. We suggest applying 2 to 3 weeks before you fly, so you have time to fix anything if needed. Add extra time if you’re applying around Tet, the Vietnamese New Year, when government offices close.

Common Mistakes That Get Applications Rejected

  • A photo with glasses, shadows or a coloured background
  • A blurry or cropped passport scan
  • Names or passport numbers that don’t exactly match the passport
  • An arrival airport or date that doesn’t match your flight
  • Applying just a few days before departure

Frequently Asked Questions

How much is the Vietnam visa fee for Indians in rupees?

The single-entry e-visa costs USD 25, which is roughly ₹2,400 at mid-2026 exchange rates. Your bank may add a small foreign-transaction charge.

Should I choose single or multiple entry?

Single entry is enough for most holidays. Choose multiple entry only if you plan to leave Vietnam and come back during the same trip.

Do children need their own e-visa?

Yes. Every traveller, including children, needs a separate application.

Can Indians get a visa on arrival in Vietnam?

A visa on arrival needs an approval letter arranged in advance, so it isn’t really “on arrival.” For most travellers, the e-visa is simpler.
